Welcome to Tom and Jana's November 2024
El Salvador Journal!

Beaches and volcanoes, fun and sun, great food and friendly people, several archaeological sites, and three grand and glorious lakes!

El Salvador has a long history of violence, but their long civil war came to an end in 1992, and a recent crackdown on gangs by President Bukele has made this one of the safest countries to visit – if you don't count the crazy traffic! The country is still off the radar of most tourists, making this the perfect time to visit, before the hordes arrive. It's just a matter of time...

With this trip, Tom has now been to every country in Central America and Jana all but Belize. We might need to put that one on our radar...

Tom and Jana at Lago Suchitlan, El Salvador

Trip highlights include Playas El Zonte and Amatecampo; Cerro Verde National Park (with a hike up Volcan de Santa Ana); Lagos Coatepeque, Suchitlan, and Ilopengo; La Ruta de Las Flores; Cafe Albania Thrill Park; Los Ausoles; Cascada Los Tercios; and archaeological sites Tazumal, Joya de Ceren, and Cihuatan.
