Sunday, February 8: Sanibel and Captiva Islands

On the last day of our vacation, it finally warmed up to typical south Florida winter weather in the 70s. Better late than never! We made the most of it and headed for the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, which had been favorites of Tom's shell-loving grandparents.

Sanibel Island

Sanibel and Captiva are sometimes referred to as the Shell Islands because of the abundance and variety of shells that wash up on their shores. We spent the day walking the beaches, collecting shells, and soaking up (finally) the Florida sunshine! It was a fantastic way to end our trip.

After our day of fun in the sun, we spent the night at a Super 8 in Clearwater, very near the airport. All good things...
